Club History

The Blackfoot Piecemakers' Quilt Club was started in 1987 by approximately 15 women from the Blackfoot area. The meetings were held at the IB & T bank, now known as Key Bank. This year (2013) we now have approximately 90 members.
The original group had show and tell and made one group quilt that was hand quilted and donated to the Christmas Tree Fantasy to be raffled. Today's group still has show and tell and we make a quilt, but we pick the charity, and raffle the quilt ourselves. In addition to that, we have education classes taught by members, book reports from books in our library and trunk shows given by quilters from the area. We have several potlucks during the year including a picnic in July and a Christmas party.
Members are involved in a friendship block exchange. If the member has been active in the club and a member for a year, they can then be eligible to have members make a friendship block for them.
Our Elizabeth Baskets program has been going on for about 10 years. Our club supplies two quilts per month (four in December), and along with churches in the Blackfoot area supply a Basket filled with items for a new mother and baby. These baskets are donated to Bingham Memorial Hospital for these mothers.
