PIECEMAKERS' QUILT CLUB

Lori Jarmin called the meeting to order at our temporary location.  She made announcements about quilt shows coming up including Quiltfest being held in Blackfoot March 28th and 29th at the Blackfoot High School. Portneuf Valley Quilt Show April 25th and 26th, Pocatello,  HMQS May 8 - 10th (SLC) and Portland, Oregon August 14 - 16th.  Mary Hege gave information on the Idaho Mennonite World Relief Festival that is on April 11th and 12th in Nampa, Idaho.

Classes coming up are Mary's Wool Class on April 10th and
Charity Day on May 8th.

A form was handed out to the members that want to sign up for the "PHD" challenge.  PHD stands for "projects half done," the next challenge, and has a deadline of March, 2015.  Lori explained how it would work.  Sign-ups will be accepted until May 22, 2014.  More forms will be available at the next meeting.

Connie Tabor gave a presentation on the different types of battings and the uses for each type.  Samples were handed out to the members that were donated by the Quilters Dream company (www.QuiltersDreamBatting.com). They also donated 3 different battings that would be  drawn for at the end of the meeting. Connie told us some interesting facts about the history of battings and also passed around some battings that she is familiar with, including Hobbs Poly Down, 80/20 cotton/polyester, wool and bamboo types.  The most important thing about battings is to match the type of batting with the way the quilt will be used.

Spinning Pinwheel Block Class

SPINNING PINWHEEL BLOCK CLASS

Connie Tabor taught the spinning pinwheel block technique in this class.
The technique is from an online site by Debby Kratovil. (debbykratovilquilts.blogspot.com/2012/10/spinning-pinwheels.html)

Connie  showed several of the finished quilts she has made.

Each member came to class with a chosen fabric and background fabric.  Connie taught how to mark and cut the fabric to get 8 repeats of the same fabric.  She warned how addictive the technique is and all agreed they just couldn't stop!!!  The following pictures show the different fabrics brought by the members and the resulting blocks.  The challenge is to get them all done and ready to show at the next meeting!
