January 28th Meeting

THE DOCTOR IS IN!!

Mary Woods introduced her husband

DR. TIM WOODS
Orthopaedic Surgeon
Office number 785-2220

Of  course she said that all he is, is attributed to her.
He gave a presentation about taking care
of ourselves and preventing injury.
The main message he gave is
GET UP!
GET OUT!
GET MOVING!
(Especially when sewing)

He talked about getting the right vitamins, especially
during the winter when we might not get sufficient
amounts of vitamin D.  We are supposed to  get 1000
units a day.  Be sure and take calcium at the same time.

He discussed having a bone density test when we are
of the menopause age or after.

Exercise is important to keep us healthy, it helps with reduce
diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, manage
stress and help you feel better about self.

F-frequency - 3 times a week
I - intensity - hard enough to get to target
T - Time - 20 minutes in each session

That is the short version.

Charity Quilt Day 2012

CHARITY QUILT DAY
January 12, 2012

We started early about 9:00 am.  Lots of friends, lots of fabric and lots of fun!

Julia did a demonstration on the STRING QUILT
It is a good way to use those scraps.

First you have a 10" squqre piece of cheap light muslin
Cut a two inch strip of the center.  Mark one time on the muslin
one inch from the center diagonal.  Put the center piece on and it
is like paper piecing ( you can use paper).  Use scraps any width and cover the edge of the previous
strip.  Place the diagonal on the ruler down the center of the
block and trim to 9 1/2".

Audrey, what happened to your glasses?
You say someone knocked them on the floor?
Opps!  And Julia stepped on them?  Wow.
Good thing you brought a spare pair.
That picture doesn't show how flat they are.

SOME OF US THAT PARTICIPATED.
I couldn't catch everyone.  They kept moving.

PROJECTS IN PROGRESS

We all had fun.  Connie was good at organizing.
Lunch was good.  Thank you all!
