January 27, 2011 Meeting

Today we met at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran church for our regular meeting.
Julia Wareing welcomed everyone and thanked those who participated in
the Charity sew day which was held a couple of weeks ago. Everyone who
participated in the charity sewing day got their name put in a drawing for
a quilt that was made from the donated blocks from the raffle quilt.  This
quilt was pieced by Mary Woods.  Nathaniel Stansfield was the lucky
winner of  the charity quilt drawing.  Connie Tabor showed off several
of the quilts that were made at the charity sew day.  Connie Tabor,
Ordis Herbst and Madge Lindsay made several pillow cases
to donate to charities.  There is a great need for quilts in the area
and Connie encouraged anyone that can to donate.  They need twin quilts,
75 X 90 or double 90 X 90, they don't have to be quilted, they can be tied.
If you have any raffle blocks for this years quilt, please be sure to get them to
Connie Tabor as soon as possible.  Madge Lindsay talked about
the Elizabeth baskets.  We give two quilts a month to the hospital except in
December we give four. Audrey Eberhard talked  about the
Friendship Blocks and that in order to participate you must attend meetings
regularly, donate  quilts, participate in charity sew days, be a member for one
year.  She encouraged those who take the blocks to return in a timely manner
(1-2 months) so that the quilts can be completed, or turn them back
in so someone else can complete and to be sure to sign the blocks.
Serena Yancey shared information on the blog and encouraged everyone to
check it out and to let her know if there are any corrections that need to be made.
Don't forget the Kim Diehl class on February 10th.  Connie Tabor will be teaching
a technique class on March 10th the cost for this class is $5.00.
Madge Lindsay will be teaching a Buggy Barn Class on April 15th the cost
for this class is $18.00 which includes a book.  Eddie Van Orden
gave a fantastic book report on "Simple Graces" by Kim Diehl.
She brought several projects she and others had completed from this book.
We had a Chinese Auction today at our meeting.  Those who participated bought
5 tickets for $1.00 and then those tickets were put in a brown bag in front of the
many items that were donated.  Julia then drew out the winner from each bag.
A few of those who went away with some fun items were ZZ Gilmore,
Betty Watt, Debbie Miles, Debbie Miles, Debbie Miles (how lucky can you be!!)
Barb McCurdy, Peggy Wareing, Leora Melton, Sally Strawn,
Kimberly Maroney, Brenda Anderson, Serena Yancey, Debbie Rawson.
We then had show and tell.  Check out the beautiful quilts and items
that were shared with us. There were several of our members who displayed
quilts at the Shelley Library quilt show.  They were all beautiful, thanks for sharing.

$200-300 dollars in material, books and quilting tools.  Congratulations!!

with the applique work on the border.  Nice work Louise!

I don't know how she does it, but Madge Lindsay
always seems to get a new quilt project done to show us
every month. This quilt was made for a girl whose Grandma
has Alzheimer's Disease and was not able to make her one,
so Madge made this for her.  She quilted it on her regular machine.
