APRIL MEETING

President, Candy High announced the birthdays for the month.  They were
Julia Wareing and Linda Watson.

Other announcements were:  There will be no board meeting on May 5th, 
and the bag class to be held on May 12th 
was cancelled due to an illness in Valarie Lemas's family.
Other quilt related information:  HMQS is being held on May 5th, 6th and 7th in Salt Lake City and $1.00 off coupons are available at Day Dreams Quilt Shop in Idaho Falls.  Other information can be obtained by going to www.hmqs.org.
There is a quilt show in Council, Idaho for those interested, 
a pamphlet was available.  
Next months meeting will feature Leslie Stevens on drafting blocks.

 The raffle quilt was presented to the membership.  The size is 108 inches by 108 inches.  Tickets will be available soon for those members wanting to sell them.

Friendship blocks for Mary Hege were made by:  Judy Kirkham, Marty Freeburne, Gloria Udy and Trudy Stubbs.  No Picture available.

The following members received their PHD's for completing all those items signed up for last year:  Jean Korth (6), Sandra Shelley (6), Stacey McClellan (8),  Joyce Lewis (8), Madge Lindsay (14), 
Diantha Hatch (9), Lynda Sponenburgh (20), 2nd place winner receiving a magnifier.  Those not present were:
Vee Gibson (24), first place winner to receive a sewing kit, Debbie Miles (16), third place winner to receive marking pens.

Madge Lindsay gave a demonstration/trunk show on how to hand quilt.  
She recommended the book called "The Perfect Stitch" by Roxanne McElroy.
Some of the topics she covered were:  Backing fabrics, batts, threads, thimbles, quilting hoops, marking pens and pencils.  She demonstrated how she layers a quilt for quilting and the quilter's knot when threading her needle.  She made many recommendations based on her hand quilting for the last 50 years.

Marty thanked Connie Tabor, Julia Wareing and Mary Hege for donating quilts for the Mennonite Relief Fund.  The total money made was $37,000 with hand quilted quilts going for $4,000 and $3800.
Mary Hege's quilt went for $750.
