JUNE MEETING



President Candy High called the meeting to order.  She introduced her friend Elizabeth Dumstrom and asked for other guests.  Linda Michaelson introduced her granddaughter Ireland, visiting from St. Peters, Missouri.

Two new members were introduced:  Cammie Wilkinson and Ruth Blackadar.  Birthdays for the month of July were Alice Elison and Audrey Eberhard.

Candy announced that the July picnic will be held at the Rose Church at 11:00 a.m. with the club providing the chicken and those members with last names starting with A - L will bring potluck dishes.

There will be no board meeting in July.

For the August meeting, members should bring in any 
antique quilts that they may have.


Connie Tabor, Eastern Idaho State Fair Superintendent for the Needlearts building talked about the Block Contest being held this year to encourage young people to participate.  Prizes will be given to each age group:  ages 8 - 12, 13 - 18, and adults.  The blocks should be 12 1/2" unfinished, made with red, white and blue fabrics.  An entry fee of $1.00 for each block entered will be collected on entry day which is August 26, and 27th.

Connie also announced that Kim Diehl has donated flannel fabric from her 
new line of baby fabrics that will be used to make baby quilts and backings 
for the Elizabeth Baskets quilts.
 Joyce Brower handed out packets of tickets to the members for 
the quilt that will be raffled at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.  
She encouraged each member to do their part 
by selling tickets.  Proceeds from the raffle will be donated 
to Blackfoot Meals on Wheels.

Karen Price introduced the next club project as a fabric exchange with 6 inch blocks of batik fabrics.  They will need to be turned in at the September meeting and will be returned at the October meeting with a variety of fabrics.  Each member should have 40 squares to participate.

The Raffle quilt for the Eastern Idaho State Fair was shown completed.  
Shelley Day donated her quilting, Mary Hege did the binding and 
Alice Baumgartner did the applique.  
The size of the quilt is 95 x 115 inches


The mini class for the day was instructions from Candy High and Karen Price 
on how to embroider.  Candy talked about different threads and sizes, and needles that can be used.
 Candy passed out fabric, needles and thread to members that had 
brought their embroidery hoops for the class.

A handout was given with different embroidery stitches and Karen 
instructed on some of these techniques.

 Some of the stitches that was taught were the Back stitch, Lazy Daisy Stitch,
Running stitch, Blanket stitch, French knot, and Fly stitch.
